| Цитата(Microsoft SQL Server MegaServers: Achieving Software Scale-Out. Microsoft Corporation @ February 2000) | SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2000 run on 32-way SMP hardware systems—although the most common SMP hardware systems are two-way, four-way, and eight-way. These systems can have up to 32 gigabytes (GB) of memory with the 32-bit Intel architecture, and up to 4 terabytes of RAM with Intel's new 64-bit Itanium architecture. They demonstrate excellent SMP scalability, both on audited benchmarks and in real applications. Today, a single eight-processor node can support more than 40,000 concurrent users accessing a computer running SQL Server that stores billions of records on a 4- terabyte (TB) disk array. These servers are capable of processing more than 50 million business transactions per day.
A SQL Server cluster of large SMP nodes can do much more. In one benchmark, a 12-node Compaq ProLiant 8500 cluster supporting nearly 200,000 concurrent users and an 18-TB database processed 227,079 transactions per minute, at a cost of less than $19.12 per transaction per minute (tpmC). This is the best peak performance and best price/performance of any database system in the world.

Насколько мне известно, пока ещё никто не упёрся в ТАКОЙ лимит.
