В общем так. Решил попроботать QT, купил книгу, которая описывает версию 3.2. С http://trolltech.com скачал qt 4.3.1 for Windows и MinGW. В книге первый пример:

выдает ошибку: error C2039: 'setMainWidget' : is not a member of 'QApplication' c:\qt\4.3.1\src\gui\kernel\qapplication.h(79) : see declaration of 'QApplication'
Смотрим qapplication.h, на строке 79 видим:
