1) Использую Windows аутент.
в Web.config прописал:
<authentication mode="Windows" />

в IIS сделал запрет на анонимный доступ.

после этого при вызове страницы появляется стандартное окно аутентификации, но после ввода
логина-пароля, вылетает такая непонятная ошибка:

Server Error in '/' Application
Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

2) При использовании forms аутентификации,
web.config изменил следующим образом:
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="LoginPage.aspx">
<credentials passwordFormat="Clear">
<user name="username" password="password" />
</credentials>
</forms>
</authentication>


Сразу же вылетает такая ошибка:

Для папки где лежит код надо создать Application в ее свойствах в Internet Services Manager.
