Background
The Unix Systems team at the EPO is responsible for the AIX/Linux server infrastructure. Currently the environment consists of a total of approximately 230 server installations divided between AIX on IBM System p, Linux on IBM System p and Linux on x86_64 hardware.

Services and Tasks
The Unix Systems team performs the design, planning, implementation, maintenance and support of the Unix server infrastructure. The team supports the daily work of application developers, application owners, database administrators. It is also the third line support for incident management and performs problem solving.

The tasks and services thus encompass:
-    support the team in design and planning issues 
-    installation and partitioning of IBM System p hardware 
-    support for installation of x86 based hardware 
-    support for set-up and installation of VMWare and Xen virtualisation environments
-    installation, customisation and administration of AIX and Linux operating systems and system related software such as HACMP and Communications Server 
-    support for the cross platform connectivity of the AIX systems to Z/OS and windows using TCP/IP and SNA 
-    occasional business travels between the EPO locations

On-call services must be fulfilled and are shared between all members of the Unix Systems team. Oncall hours are currently during the work week in the evenings and on Saturdays, this may be extended to be 24/7 on-call. Many of the tasks of the Unix Systems team must be performed during the off-line hours, i.e. after 19:00 in the week or during weekends. Readiness to work at such times is necessary.

Required skills
• at least 4 years proven experience in the partitioning, installation, customisation and administration of a complex net of AIX operating systems and system related software such as HACMP in a complex and networked environment. 
• proven excellent AIX knowledge 
• proven excellent HACMP knowledge 
• proven experience in performance analysis 
• proven very good Linux knowledge 
• excellent working knowledge of English 
• proven excellent team worker being able to work independently and be pro-active. 
• an understanding of the necessity of a well functioning change management system 
• proven ability to work in a multicultural international organisation 

Additional Skills
in addition, knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
• VMWare and/or Xen 
• Linux HA (formerly known as Heartbeat) on x86 hardware 
• CSM (IBM Cluster System Management) 
• LDAP administration knowledge 
• working knowledge in German and/or French
